Weanling Ready: Worth Their Weight in Gold

As weanling season approaches, Animal Health Ireland (AHI), supported by AIB, is bringing its ‘Weanling Ready: Worth Their Weight in Gold’ series to four marts around the country.

Following the success of last year’s events, farmers are invited to join AHI Programme Managers, local veterinary practitioners and AIB representatives for an evening of practical, evidence-based advice to help prepare healthy, thriving weanlings for sale, housing or further production on farm.

The events will focus on the key health considerations around weaning, sale and housing, including:

• Pneumonia prevention and the importance of timely vaccination
• Preparing calves for sale and housing
• Pre-housing health checks and recognising the early signs of disease
• Parasite control and the importance of dung sampling
• Knowing calf weights for accurate dosing
• Calibrating dosing equipment
• Minimising stress around weaning and sale

Whether you’re selling your weanlings through the mart or retaining them on your own farm, these events will provide practical advice to help ensure your calves are truly ‘weanling ready’.

All events begin at 7.30pm.

Admission is free and all farmers are welcome to attend. Farmers are encouraged to attend their nearest event.
