DAFM Financial Supports

The Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine will provide the following financial supports to encourage the prompt removal of animals found to be suspect of being infected with BVD virus.

Beef Herds

  • A payment of €220 if the animal is removed within 10 days of the first positive or inconclusive test.
  • A reduced payment €30 if the animal is removed between Day 11 and Day 21 of the first positive or inconclusive test.

Dairy Herds

  • A payment of €160 if the dairy female or dairy cross animal is removed within 10 days of positive or inconclusive BVD test.
  • A reduced payment of €30 if the dairy female or dairy cross animal is removed between Day 11 and Day 21 of the first positive or inconclusive BVD test.
  • A payment of €30 if the dairy bull is removed within 14 days of the positive or inconclusive BVD test.

Terms and Conditions

Herds where positive/inconclusive BVD virus results are disclosed will be placed under immediate movement restrictions. Neighbouring herds will receive a biosecurity notification informing them of their increased risk, and on a monthly basis thereafter in the absence of removal of the suspect animal(s) with positive or inconclusive results.
