Pig HealthCheck Tail Biting Risk Factor Assessment (TASAH)

A TASAH-funded review of factors associated with the risk of tail-biting, delivered by a trained veterinary practitioner, is available to all commercial pig units.

The assessment follows a standard approach, typically based on evaluation of six different pens at different stages of production.

As part of the assessment, up to three achievable measures to reduce identified risks will be agreed for implementation, with a farm-level report provided.

Over time, the information will also be used to allow units to bench mark their risks against other units on an anonymised basis. Periodic repeating of the review will also allow progress over time to be measured.

To request an assessment, please contact a trained veterinary practitioner or Animal Health Ireland.
