August 2026 – Save the Date! ‘Healthly Hooves to Healthy Herds’

Good hoof health is an important part of keeping cows healthy, mobile and performing well. This September, Animal Health Ireland’s Hoof HealthCheck Programme, supported by Norbrook and Provita, is bringing practical advice on lameness prevention and management directly to farmers.

Under the theme “Healthy Hooves to Healthy Herds”, two farmer events will take place this September, giving dairy farmers an opportunity to learn more about identifying, preventing and managing lameness in the herd.

Both events start at 11.00am, with refreshments available.

The events will focus on practical lameness management, including:

• Identifying lame cows and recognising the early signs
• Understanding the main causes of lameness
• Practical steps to help prevent lameness in the herd
• Managing lame cows appropriately
• Improving cow mobility, welfare and performance

The events will provide an opportunity to see practical approaches in action, hear from industry experts and ask questions about lameness on your own farm.

Hoof health plays an important role in herd performance, and identifying problems early can help reduce the impact of lameness on cows and the farm.

Farmers and farm families are welcome to attend.
